Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on a spiritual journey. It is helping people tell their sacred stories everyday. Spiritual direction helps us learn how to live in peace, with compassion, promoting justice, as humble servants of God. It is help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship. Each year, our Religious Education Commission, provides an opportunity for members of the parish to attend a Parish Mission/Retreat. Typically this involves the presenter of the Mission speaking at the weekend Masses prior to the Mission and then presenting a series of talks the following days. These presentations are usually held in the evenings and sometimes during the day. Parish Missions typically last two to three days. Our next Parish Mission will be held March 25-28, 2007. Fr. Denis Robinson, O.S.B. from St. Meinrad Archabbey, will lead this mission.
Many people have discovered the benefit of gathering with other people to share the experiences of their faith journey. People who have participated in a Cursillo weekend, for instance, regular gather in faith sharing groups. Other forms of faith sharing groups include Bible Study groups We are always interested in giving people the chance to experience a faith sharing group. Contact our Director of Religious Education for more information.
Several people have found attending a retreat to be helpful for their spiritual growth. There are several local places that offer retreat opportunities. One such place is Kordes Retreat Center run by the Benedictine Sisters of Ferdinand, Indiana.. Another place is St. Meinrad Archabbey run by the Benedictine Monks of St. Meinrad.. Once a year men of the parish attend a retreat at the White House, a Jesus Retreat Center in St. Louis.
