Praise Prayer Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His mercy endures forever. Amen
Glory Prayer Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen. Dar parents and families, The primary source for the teaching and learning of prayers occurs with the parents/family in the home. The catechists reinforce the learning of prayers that has occurred in the home by using the prayers in the classroom. As a faith community we use many of these prayers when we gather in celebration. The Diocese has developed a general schedule for the teaching of prayers. We all know that children learn at different rates and in different ways and that parish programs differ, so the schedule is adjustable. However, this is the schedule we will use as we reinforce the prayers in the classroom. Included with this letter is a prayer booklet to help you as you teach your children. The prayers to be known are listed by grade on the front cover with “Additional Prayers to be Encouraged” listed on the back cover. I hope you find this prayer booklet a helpful tool. The Beatitudes are important in teaching attitudes for true happiness. 1. Blest are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of God is theirs. 2. Blest are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled. 3. Blest are the lowly; they shall inherit the land. 4. Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness; they shall have their fill. 5. Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs. 6. Blest are the single-hearted; for they shall see God. 7. Blest are the peacemakers; they shall be called children of God. 8. Blest are those persecuted for holiness’ sake; the reign of God is theirs.
O God, we believe in all that Jesus has taught us about you. We place all our trust in you because of your great love for us. Amen.
O my God, I love you above all things, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for love of you. I forgive all who have injured me, and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.
O God, we never give up on Your love. We have hope and will work for Your Kingdom to come and for a life that lasts forever with You in heaven. Amen. Morning Prayer Almighty God, you have given us this day; strengthen us with your power and keep us from falling into sin, so that whatever we say or think or do may be in your service and for the sake of your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord, watch over us this night. By your strength, may we rise at daybreak to rejoice in the resurrection of Christ, your son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Joyful Mysteries 1. The Annunciation. Mary is asked to be the Mother of God. 2. The Visitation. Mary visits her cousin, Elizabeth. 3. The Birth of Jesus. 4. The Presentation. Jesus is presented at the Temple. 5. Jesus is found at the Temple.
Sorrowful Mysteries 1. Jesus’ agony in the garden. 2. Jesus is scourged at the pillar. 3. Jesus is crowned with thorns. 4. Jesus carries his cross. 5. Jesus dies on the cross for our sins.
Glorious Mysteries 1. The Resurrection. Jesus rises from the dead. 2. The Ascension. Jesus ascends into heaven. 3. The Holy Spirit comes to the apostles on Pentecost.4. The Assumption. Mary, mother of Jesus is taken into heaven. 5. The Coronation. Mary is crowned queen of heaven.
The Luminous Mysteries 1. The baptism of Christ in the Jordan.2. The wedding feast at Cana. 3. The announcement of the Kingdom.4. The Transfiguration. 5. The institution of the Eucharist.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known to anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come; before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! Despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
The angel of the Lord declared to Mary, and she conceived by the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary... Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word. Hail Mary. ..And the Word was made Flesh and dwelled among us. Hail Mary... Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray, Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts that we to whom the incarnation of Christ your son was made known by the message of an angel may, by his passion and death, be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Remember, Lord, your holy Church. Deliver us from evil. Make us perfect in your love. Gather us from the four corners of the earth, and make us holy men and women. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Some of the specific duties expected of Catholic Christians as minimal duties are: 1. Celebrate Christ’s resurrection every Sunday (and Holy Days of Obligation) by taking part in Mass and avoiding unnecessary work. 2. Lead a sacramental life. Receive Holy Communion frequently and the Sacrament of Reconciliation/ Penance regularly. We must receive Holy Communion at least once a year at Lent-Easter time. If we have committed serious or mortal sin, we must confess within a year. 3. Study Catholic teaching throughout one’s life, especially in preparing for the sacraments. 4. Observe the marriage laws of the Catholic Church and give religious training to one’s children. 5. Strengthen and support the Church; one’s own parish; the worldwide Church and the Holy Father. 6. Do penance, including not eating meat and fasting from food on certain days of fast and abstinence. 7. Join the missionary spirit and work of the Church.
