Parish Council The Parish Council overseas the direction of the parish by working with the pastor. Their role is to make sure that our parish is headed in the direction. Recognizing that we are parish of “worker bees,” the task of the Parish Council is to ensure that we are focusing our energy on doing the “right things” rather then doing things the right way. The members of the Parish Council keep in contact with the other commissions to ensure that there is good flow of information between them and the members of the entire parish. Their role is to keep their eyes and ears open to get a sense of what’s happening in the parish. Click here for minutes of last meeting Within the Parish Council, there are five different commissions each of which is responsible for a specific aspect of parish life. These five commissions are:
Meeting--First Monday of the Month 7pm The Finance and Administration Commission is charged with overseeing all financial and administrative matters to ensure the smooth operation of the parish. Among their tasks are overseeing the well being and maintenance of all parish buildings and property, reviewing and approving all physical changes to parish buildings and parish properties., conduct the Parish Lottery, Renew bulletin and newsletter ads, conduct the annual Catholic Parishes Campaign (CPC), and prepare the annual parish budget and review the financial status of the parishClick here for minutes of last meeting Third Wednesday of the Month 6pm The function of the Parish School Board to serve as an advisory body to the School Principal, to assist the Principal in in planning and operating the school and formulating policies based on the needs of students and school families. They also prepare and oversee the budget for the ministry of Catholic Education through our schools. They serve as a forum for concerns of students, parents and parishioners. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COMMISSION Third Wednesday of the month 6:30 pm The Religious Education Commission serves as an advisory body for the Director of Religious Education (DRE. They assist the DRE in formulating an annual budget for the Religious Education Program and work with the DRE to review and maintain the different aspects of the Religious Education Program (Sunday Religious Education Classes, REACH, Vacation Bible School, Sacramental Preparation Programs, RCIA, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Adult Education opportunities, (Curcillo, TEC, Parish Missions, Workshops). They also work with the DRE to maintain contact with the youth in our parish. Click here for minutes of last meeting
Third Thursday of the Month 7 pm Recognizing that the ultimate sign of our being a Catholic Faith Community is our willingness to serve the poor and needy, the Parish Outreach Commission is charged with the responsibility of reviewing and coordinating our Parish outreach efforts. Among the things that this commission coordinates are our Right To Life efforts, monthly collections for the St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry, working with the Soup Kitchen at St. John, working with our sister parish, St. James in Plaine du Nord, Haiti, support of Habitat for Humanity as well as other needs that may present themselves.
